How to Generate a Key and Certificate Request Using OpenSSL

Image
If you want to start up a web server or perhaps just want to add SSL capabilities to a pre-existing website, this quick tutorial may be useful to you. In a Unix environment, generating a key and certificate request or .key and .csr with OpenSSL is actually quite simple and stress-free. OpenSSL is a cryptographic toolkit that uses the SSL and TLS protocols, so this is what we will be using. Note: This tutorial was made using Ubuntu Server. Installing OpenSSL If you do not already have OpenSSL, you can quickly install it with:   sudo apt-get install openssl Did you know OpenSSL originated from a project called SSLeay which was developed in 1995? Generating a Key and Certificate Request With that out of the way, let's move on to making the key and Certificate Signing Request (or CSR for short.) This can all be done with one command. It's a doozy, but I'll explain each part of the command so you'll know what to use each bit for in the future. Head back to your termina...

How to Delete Steam Games From Your Computer

Image
How to Uninstall Steam Games After using Steam for over 10 years, I've collected quite a few games. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't have a ton of space remaining. I'm constantly swapping out (uninstalling) games so that I have space for the latest titles. That's what I love about Steam, though—I never lose the games I buy since they're always tied to my account. This step-by-step guide shows you how to uninstall Steam games so you can save space on your computer, get rid of a horrible game (I'll admit, they're not all awesome games), or delete it regardless of your reasons! Note : If you don't want to use Steam anymore, I recommend completely uninstalling Steam instead of removing individual games. Let's get started! Backing Up Save Files on Steam While many games use Steam Cloud to automatically save your progress online, not all games have this feature. Before getting started, you may want to manually back up your game files. Save files ar...

How to Uninstall Steam (Step-by-Step With Pictures)

Image
Steam is a computer-based gaming platform that allows users to acquire and update video games and, of course, to keep purchases safe in their accounts. Games are tied to user accounts, so if you uninstall a game (or the entire Steam client), you don't have to worry about losing access to your game. You can just log into Steam and download your games all over again at some point in the future. Steam (and all your Steam games) can take up quite a bit of space on your computer. If you just need a little bit of space, I recommend uninstalling some of your games instead of removing Steam, especially if you do plan on using Steam again in the future (it's just faster and easier.) You may find yourself spending a lot of time gaming and not doing the things you're supposed to be doing. Also, uninstalling and reinstalling is one way to fix any issues with the Steam app. Whether you're performing some computer clean-up, aiming to spend less time gaming, or need to reinstall Ste...

Fixed: YouTube Video Stuck 99% on Upload or Processing

Image
I've had quite a few people come to me with an issue relating to uploading on YouTube. Their video upload slows significantly or stops completely. I've been there too (and it sucks). I designed this guide to help you finish your YouTube upload by learning why it got stuck and what you can do to fix it without (hopefully) starting over. Let's get started! However, if you're trying to upload a video format that they don't support, it might ...

How to Find Occurrences of a Character in a String Using Ruby

Image
Finding all occurrences of a particular character in a string in the Ruby programming language can be achieved in practically innumerable ways. You may want to choose your approach based on what you plan to do with the occurrences of these characters. In this tutorial, I will highlight ways to find all occurrences of a character in a string (not just the first one). Three Ways to Find All Instances of a Character in a String of Ruby Code Ruby's built-in count method allows you to count the number of times a character occurs in a string The built-in scan method allows you to see the characters themselves The index method allows you to retrieve the first location within a string where a character occurs All three methods can be used to clean data for pre-processing, which is the application I had in mind when making this guide. The method you choose to use should depend on your string and your desired outcome. Whatever your goal, my hope is that I've got you covered with a d...

Facebook Ads Still Pending Review? Here's the Scoop!

Image
Why Is My Facebook Ad Pending Review? After creating an advertisement through Facebook, you may notice that it doesn't go live right away. In fact, it seems to be "pending" for quite a while. When I created my first Facebook ad, I found it a little frustrating to have to wait so long. I mean, I'm giving them my money, right? I learned that there are some fairly compelling reasons why new ads sit in the pending pile. The biggest reason: Facebook manually reviews every single new ad campaign. With a large number of advertisers flocking to Facebook, your ad can sit in the queue for a while. How Long Will the Review Process Take? According to Facebook, if you create your ad during their business hours, it can take up to 12 hours for your ad to be reviewed. Once you've created your ad, it will be queued. So even if you create your ad during business hours, the reviewers still have to get through all the ads before yours. So what if you've scheduled your ad to ...
